ADDITIONAL FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR RATINGS:

Flight Instructor Instrument Rating (CFI-I): You will have to pass the Flight Instructor Instrument written exam. If you are current and proficient on instrument procedures the practical training will consist of about 8 hours of dual instruction in the Piper Arrow (or the Apache, if you would like to build additional multi-engine experience), and about 5 hours of ground school covering the various areas of instrument flying and how to teach them. The total cost of your Flight Instructor Instrument rating will be about $1250.00 if the training is taken in the Piper Arrow or about $1600.00 in the Apache, as well as a $ 200.00 examiner's fee. If you have the knowledge exam passed, the training will take about 4 days.

Note: Flight instructors with less than 200 hours of instructing experience or weak instrument proficiency may require additional training to prepare for the flight instructor instrument rating. Frequently instrument rated pilots become very rusty on instrument skills while preparing for their commercial and flight instructor certificates, and while teaching primary training.

Flight Instructor, Airplane Multi Engine (CFI-ME): There is no written exam required. Depending on your multi-engine experience the training will consist of about 4 to 6 hours of flight training and about 4 hours of ground school. You must have a minimum of 15 hours of multi-engine pilot in command experience before you can take the flight test. Your training will count as PIC time, but should have at least 9 or 10 hours of multi engine PIC time before beginning your CFI-ME training to insure that you will not have to fly additional time to meet the 15 hour requirement. Depending on your experience, the cost of your Flight Instructor Multi Engine rating will be about $925.00 to $1250.00, as well as a $200.00 examiner's fee. The training will take about 3 days.

Note: Flight instructors with less than 200 hours of instructing experience may require additional training to prepare for the flight instructor airplane multi engine rating.

Additional Flight Instructor Flight Tests: Flight tests for additional flight instructor ratings, as well as flight instructor renewal or re-instatement can be taken with a designated flight instructor examiner. There are presently 2 designated flight instructor examiners in the Wichita area who are usually available on 1 or 2 days notice. Their fee is $ 200.00 for per flight test.
